The hummingbirds came to me in my early 20s when I was still growing plants on apartment balconies. We potted up native salvias and the hummers would visit us everyday from the wildlife corridor below. Some days they were the only thing that pulled me out of deep depression, gliding across the deserts and coastal chaparral and oak woodland landscapes.

Manzanita was the first flower essence I ever made, on a razor-edged ridge in the lionβs den above Big Sur with ringtail cat, coastal fog, native bees, tarantula. Manzanita offers us safe embodiment, softening our conditioned survival response. They balance hard edges with open heart tenderness, instilling courage, and moving inner emotions toward outward expression.
